Name: Emma Francis.
Instruments: Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto & Tenor Saxophone, Flute, Piano, Recorder.
Favourite Instrument: Clarinet, as it was her “first love”!
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Orchestral Performance.
Emma’s Story: At age 8, Emma discovered that she could not get enough of the flute and clarinet, during an ICT lesson where the exercise was to match instruments to their sound. Like magic, the next school newsletter announced that Clarinet lessons would now be available, and the rest was history!
At university, Emma began playing First Study clarinet and Second Study piano, however piano did not quite capture Emma’s heart the way clarinet had. So, she switched to Saxophone as that had always taken her fancy and she never looked back.
Toward the end of her degree, Emma’s orchestra group encouraged her to branch out and this made her pick up the flute and bass clarinet which she also thoroughly enjoyed and still actively plays now.
Fun fact: Emma has recorded several times at Abbey Road Studio!
Now, Emma is: Teaching online, taking students from all over the country.
For Emma, teaching is: “A joy… it’s like a part of me”.
Goals for the future: To be a pit musician for a West End musical, still teaching on the side.
