Short Bio: Established 28 years ago to encourage children to play alongside adults in a relaxed atmosphere. Approx 55 members of mixed ages and abilities

Gig’s: 4 a year including Lighthouse, Wimborne Minster and a couple of local churches. All profit from concerts go to local charities

 

POOLE SYMPHONIC CONCERT BAND

Style Of Music: Classical to Modern Pop

Short Bio: We are an amateur Concert Band that includes strings and electric bass. We meet every Wednesdayevening for a fun rehearsal. The music is fun and also challenging.

Short Bio: No Strings Attached is a woodwind group. It was formed in October 2012 as a training band.No Strings Attached encourages an individual to play with other people of similar standard, gain confidence and learn new musical skills.

Gig’s: We take part in 2 or 3 local music festivals each year and play as guests of Sound Wave Sinfonia each term. We host our own concert once a year.

 

BOURNEMOUTH DISTRICT CONCERT BAND

Playing Standard: We don’t ask for a specific grade but we recommend you’re around Grade 5 or equivalent.

Style Of Music: We play a wide variety of music, there’s something for everyone.

Short Bio: We’re a community concert band and rehearse every Thursday evening from 7:30-9:30pm at Queen’s Park Infant Academy, East Way, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH8 9PU. We’re one of the area’s largest concert bands with around 50 musicians of all ages and play a wide variety of music. Our band members come from all over the area including Bournemouth, Poole, Wimborne, Ferndown, Christchurch and Highcliffe.

SOUND WAVE SINFONIA

Age Range: Mainly teenagers with some adults. The current band has players aged  from 12 -89.

Playing Standard:  Players range from grade 3-8. The music played is mainly 4-5 standard. If enough flautists at a lower grade we set up a separate band called the Flutelets.

Style Of Music: A varied assortment of music from the Shows/pop/movies and Light classical.

Short Bio: There are two bands – the Magic Flutes and Sound Wave Sinfonia

The Magic Flutes founded 1998 consists of some 15 flautists. It meets first at 6.30, followed by Sound Wave Sinfonia at 7.30. This was founded 2003 and comprises all wind, brass and string instruments.

We meet every Thursday in term time in the Wellspring Centre, Haviland road , Boscombe

Gigs: We give three concerts a year at the end of each school term, with occasional charity type ones in between. Since 2010 we have also run a Musical Chairs Summer School running for four days in late July/early August open to all players which has proved very popular. Find all our groups on facebook

 

THE WIMBORNE ORCHESTRA

Style Of Music: orchestral, including ‘classical’, film, music theatre, and light music.

Short Bio: The orchestra was founded in 1951 and currently has some 80 members. We rehearse on Mondays in St Nicholas Church, Corfe Mullen, and welcome players of all orchestral and brass/wind instruments.

Gigs: an informal concert at the end of each term, plus a few higher-key events. Upcoming concerts are on Monday 11 July and a ‘Last Night of the Proms’ on Monday 10th October. We also do occasional small group events for local organisations

 

BOURNEMOUTH CARNIVAL BAND

Style of Music:   Wide Spectrum of musical styles from Traditional Military, American Marching Band, Pop, Swing, Jazz, Disco and Latin American

Short Bio: We are a fun-loving, comedy marching band who usually appear dressed as either Spiderman or Batman. The band is a registered charity whose main aims are to assist and help the fund raising of worthy causes. The band is based around brass instruments, drums, bugles and bell-lyres, and we play a wide variety of music. We play a lot of events throughout the year: mainly in the UK, but some abroad!

GUGGE 2000

Age Range:  From 18 years upwards. No upper age limit

Playing Standard:   Grades not necessary. Helpful to be able to read music for brass players. No requirements for percussion, just a sense of rhythm.

Style Of Music:  Guggenmusik is based in Germany and Switzerland.  It is loud and colourful, and was originated as a way of scaring off the Winter spirits. Bands wear bright outfits, and the music is loud. It is as much visual as it is musical.

Short Bio: We are one of only two bands in the U.K.  Gugge 2000 started in 1998 with 12 players, and has grown since then. We have over 40 players, lots of brass and lots of percussion. We have players who play in traditional Brass Bands and Wind Bands, of varying skill levels.  A very friendly, fun band with a wide age range and abilities.

Gig’s  :We play busking gigs in Bournemouth, Wimborne Folk Festival, various music festivals around the country, a couple of beer festivals, and private functions.
